A statement released by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Col. Rabe Abubakar, said findings by the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) indicates fake national identity cards were in circulation and Warns Nigerians to beware of unscrupulous elements producing the fake national identity card.

He said, that the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) remained the only agency responsible for registration and issuance of the national identity card.
“The implication of fake national ID cards in circulation is that Boko Haram terrorists also used similar methods to identify their members who were nabbed by the military."
The DHQ therefore, appealed to the public to report any attempt by unauthorized persons to issue national identity cards to securities agencies.
