Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Monday disclosed that his administration met a virtually empty treasury.
President Buhari made the revelation while speaking with State House Correspondents on his first day at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The President expressed that the debt of millions of dollars might likely bring much pressure in the first 100 days of his administration.
“I hope we are starting gradually. Treasury is virtually empty and debts running into millions of dollars.
“The fact that state workers and even federal workers have not been paid their salaries is such a disgrace for Nigeria,” President Buhari lamented.
The President further solicited the support of Nigerian Media in the task ahead.
“I think Nigeria should be in a position to even pay its workers, this bad management that we find ourselves, in we really need your help to protect us from people before they match on us,” he said.
The meeting with the President was attended by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, as well as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media, Mallam Shehu Garuba.
