Samsung launch first UFS card to replace MicroSD card

Tech giant Samsung made a significant move with the launch of the all new UFS card ( Universal flash storage), which is set to replace the ageing MicroSD standard. The UFS technology is a common flash storage standard that is maintained by the JEDEC Consortium (formerly known as the

Joint Electron Device Engineering Council). The Samsung UFS cards are available in 256GB, 128GB, 64GB and 32GB capacities and re apparently capable of transfer speeds and Input/output operations per secons (IOPS). The new memory cards now available in the market.

UFS apparently replaces both eMMC for embedded flash and SD cards for external flash. Most memory manufacturers (Micron, SK Hynix, Samsung) and some phone companies such as (Samsung, Nokia) are supporters of the spec. The UFS spec has been around since 2012, and it was updated in 2013. It was sparingly used in embedded form but not in the external cards for the time being.

Samsung claims that its 256GB UFS card is competent of sequential reads five times faster than the typical MicroSD card and topping out at 530MB/s. This read speed is associated with SATA-based SSD drives like Samsung possess Evo 850. The random read speeds are also good, rated at 40,000 IOPS. The UFS 2.0 interface is capable of providing speed of today’s SATA SSDs for PCs. The writing speed is not as similar as the read speed but better than the best standard MicroSD cards, with speed up to 170MB/s. The speed of a professional MicroSD card for example SanDisk tops out at 100MB/s. This kind of speed makes the UFS cards more powerful to use and the speed is great for Android adoptable storage features. Those features which let you pool internal and external storage as well as with digital cameras.
