Afghanistan: Taliban launches daring attack on Parliament

 The Taliban attacked the Afghan parliament Monday, setting off at least one large bomb as lawmakers were meeting inside and igniting a gun battle with security forces, police and witnesses said.

 The Afghan Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was aimed at the parliament.

"A suicide bomber blew himself up just outside the parliament building and several fighters took positions in a building close to parliament," the Reuters news agency quoted Kabul police spokesperson Ebadullah Karimi as saying.

Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said the attack began with a car bomb explosion near the entrance.

Sediqqi said all the MPs inside parliament were safe. At least six Taliban militants were killed in the attack. Police said all the attackers had been killed the siege was over.
