The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) wants to send humans to Mars by the 2030's in an effort to determine whether there is, or was, life on the planet. So you can be one of the first humans to set foot on the red planet.

NASA is sending a 3D printer to space that you can use

3D Printing company Made in Space is partnering with NASA to send the first commercial manufacturing facility to the International Space Station (ISS). The Additive Manufacturing Facility (AMF) will be launched next Tuesday.

According to Techcrunh, After the launch, Users on Earth can pay to use AMF, a 3D printer specially designed to operate in a microgravity environment, to print products on the space station. Once it arrives, Made in Space will be able to command AMF remotely from their headquarters in the NASA Ames Research Park.

NASA's mission: Growing potatoes on Mars

NASA has teamed up with the International Potato Centre in Peru to dish out a new project: Develop a potato that could be grown on Mars.

A patch of land on the world's oldest desert, the Atacama, resembles the surface of the Red Planet. 

And that is why scientists believe it is the perfect soil to breed a potato that could grow in extreme conditions, as on Mars.

"We’ve found here the closest similarity to the soil in Mars," Julio Valdivia, a NASA scientist, told Al Jazeera.

"We’ve done experiments like those done by missions that have gone to Mars. The potato is the ideal candidate because it has conquered all the ecosystems of this planet since the Spaniards took them from here in the 16th century."

NASA invites public to send names to Mars

NASA's new Mars exploration slated for 2016, promises to be the most insightful research of the red's planet as it will be the first ever launch that will be committed to research the deepest corners of MARS.During the research the first seismometer will directly be placed on the surface of Mars to calculate the Martian quakes. This information will help researchers to know about details of the planet.

The launch will take place from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California and NASA is looking for Volunteers to add their names to a silicon microchip that will be added to the cargo of its Insight MARS lander to the red planet.
