Three Somalis were killed and scores of people were injured when a
group of terrorists launched a car bomb on a UAE relief convoy in the
Somali capital of Mogadishu, a WAM report quoted the UAE Ambassador to
Somalia Mohammad Ahmad Al Hammadi as saying.
He said the UAE aid
workers in the convoy were not injured. The ambassador said the UAE
embassy is in contact with the authorities to fly the wounded to the UAE
for treatment.
Dr Anwar Mohammad Gargash, Minister of State for
Foreign Affairs, strongly condemned the attack and expressed his deep
sorrow at the Somali casualties. He offered condolences to their
families and wished speedy recovery to the wounded.
“We are following the situation and investigations related to the incident closely,” Gargash added.
He
stressed that this terrorist act will not deter the UAE from its
commitment to support Somalia and its people in addressing the threat of
terrorism. He said that the UAE will continue to work hard to support
the security, stability and development in Somalia.
