UN Headquarters in New York

South Africa may get a permanent seat at the next general assembly of the United Nations Security Council later this month, if Africa is granted a slot or two on the permanent seats on the Security Council.

This was made known by Africa National Congress (ANC) sub-committee chairperson on international relations, Obed Bapela, he emphasized that the UN Security Council is biased, that the council currently has five nations consisting of the USA, United Kingdom, China, France and Russia as permanent members.
The council also has 10 non-permanent members, who serve on the council for two years.

Bapela, said Africa with a population of 1 billion deserves some representation on the UN security Council and that African leaders will push for a reform of the security council.
