Police in the Swedish city of Trollhattan shot a masked man wielding a sword after injuring an adult and four students at a school this morning.
One of the victims is said to be in a critical condition, according to Swedish news agency TT.
"We have a number of people injured," said Stefan Gustafsson from the regional police force.Mr Gustafsson confirmed that officers had shot a man on the premises.
"His condition is unknown," he said.
Police said there was "considerable confusion" at the school, in the western city of Trollhattan - an industrial town of around 50,000 north of Gothenburg.
Armed officers were called to the scene at around 10am after a masked man wielding a sword entered the school and attacked a person at or near the school cafeteria, police confirmed.
There was around 400 students on the campus when the attack took place.
