The leader of a splinter group 'Ansaru' of the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram, known for kidnapping expatriates has been arrested in a breakthrough military operations on Friday in Lokoja, Kogi State capital.
According to military spokesman Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, Notorious Khalid al Barnawi whom the US had place a $5m (£3.5m) bounty on his head after branding him one of three Nigerian "specially designated global terrorists" in 2012 was arrested on Friday.
Ansaru a group linked to al-Qaeda Islamist group, claimed resposibility for the 2012 attack on a maximum security prison in the Nigerian capital Abuja, freeing dozens of inmates.
The group is also accused of killing a number of Westerners.
