How to avoid Tire Blow-Out by pumping right pressure into your Tire

Do you even know there's limit to what pressure you put in your car's tire?

The pressure pumped inside tire are measure in pounds per square inch (psi)?

Do you know that the maximum inflation pressure is indicated in a relatively small-sized print branded near the tire's bead (adjacent to the wheel).

Many lives have been lost due to the errors of our road side Vulcanizers in Nigeria, who pumped whatever they just dim fit into our tires.


Do you know the life-span of every tire is just 4 years?

WHAT IS THE RIGHT PSI TO AVOID BLOW-OUT:

Usually, your tire’s maximum tire pressure is somewhere between 30 and 35 PSI but here in Nigeria it seems all the road side vulcanizer's agreed pressure is 50 and sometimes 60 and that is about 70 to 75 increased psi.

Again you must have heard that if your tire is pumped to the maximum it performs best and reduce fuel comsumption! yes that's very correct...so i will still recommend increasing your pressure from the FEH recommended 35psi by not more than 10% meaning 110% pressure.
Here's how 1.10 x 35 = 38.5psi or max 40psi which is 14.2% increase in pressure.

DANGERS OF OVER INFLATING YOUR TIRES:

Tires are made of rubber and tend to expand in hot weather, if your tire is over-inflated it's most likely you experience a blow-out during hot weather when the components of the tire begin to expand.

There's also the increased vulnerability to hydro-planing (hydroplaning by the tires of a road vehicle, aircraft or other wheeled vehicle occurs when a layer of water builds between the wheels of the vehicle and the road surface, leading to a loss of traction that prevents the vehicle from responding to control inputs)to which an over inflated tire is exposed. The shorter and smaller the adhesion patch the more vulnerable a tire is to hydro-planing, as a short adhesion patch does not have as much “time” to “squeeze” water into the tread grooves. Instead, the water will ingress between the tire tread and the road surface, literally “lifting” the tire off the road. The effect is worse than driving on black ice. It is unnecessary to explain that the consequences of such an effect are unattractive.

BEFORE YOU BUY THAT TIRE:

Often time i have heard people saying, i just bought the tire and thank goodness it was not more than this..i suffered a blow-out. To start with, vehicle tire have a 4-year validity period from their Date of Manufacture (DOM). Like i stated earlier tires are made of rubber and other chemical component, this components starts to disintegrate after four years of manufacture even if you just bought it and this may result in blow-out whilst in use.

How to find out whether your tire has expired? First, check for a stamp like this: (*0204*). There is an asterisk at the beginning and at the end of this serial number (Some tires don't have asterisk).

The First two digits are the week so 0204 is second week in 2004. Therefore, *0204* shows that the said tire is manufactured in the 5th week of the year 2004.

The best time to pump your tire is in the morning or a few hours after it has been parked ( Cold pressure).
