A lion which escaped from a zoo during flooding in the Georgian capital has killed a man, it emerged today.
Dozens of wild animals including bears,
wolves and a hippo ran amok through Tbilisi on Sunday after torrential
rain allowed them to flee their enclosures.
The city has been placed on lock-down ever since, with police and wildlife experts still trying to round up the animals.
An interior ministry spokeswoman said the
lion killed the man and injured another near Heroes’ Square in the
centre of the capital.
‘Police special forces were deployed and are hunting down the animal,’ she added.
