A new prize for unpublished novelists and non-fiction
writers resident in Australia is being inaugurated this year in memory
of the late Matt Richell, former head of Hachette Australia. It is, in
the words of the three partners, “a prize for unpublished writers who
are serious about their craft and aspire to commence a professional
writing career.”
This prestigious award carries prize money of $10,000 AUD as well as a
year of mentoring with Hachette: “Hachette Australia will work with the
winning writer to develop their manuscript with first option to
consider the finished work for publication. As well as promoting the
Prize, The Guardian Australia will publish an extract
of the first chapter of the winning work on its website and will also
offer the winner and shortlisted entrants the opportunity to attend
their Guardian Australia Masterclass series.”
The prize will open for submissions on 2 July and close on 14 August. For more details on eligibility and how to submit, follow this link.
