Wreckage of Plane found with 4 skeletons in dried lake 50 years after it crashed

A Piper Apache Twin Engine plane that went down over a lake in Argentina on October 19, 1964 has been found more than half a century after it crashed.

The discovery was made by a local who found part of the plane's wing after the lake evaporated.

The Plane had four people on board, the pilot and three engineers working for the Pan American Argentine Oil Company, when it went down into the Colhue Huapi lake in Argentina in 1964.

Two rescue and search efforts in 1964 and 1980 were unsuccessful, but workers never recovered the plane, a Piper Apache Twin Engine, which sank into the lake.

However the lake evaporated over time, exposing the remains of the aircraft.

The rest of the plane was buried beneath the ground.

The Skeletons of the four people on board were found in the wreckage of the doomed plane.

Locals who uncovered the plane matched its registration number with that of the missing flight and informed aviation authorities.

The Colhue Huapi lake has been retreating for decades, steadily evaporating due to a lack of rain and pressures on the local water supply.
