Real life Spiderman saves family from burning car

A couple on their way to the hospital with their three year old daughter have a real-life superhero 'Spiderman' to thank for saving them from their burning car.

The couple, Lucky day and Stephen Grant's car caught fire and luckily a man who was later identified as children's entertainer Tom Roche, was driving past in full costume on the way to a party at the time. 

Roche was with his girlfriend and they noticed smoke pouring out from under the car and flagged them down.

Miss Day, who is 22 weeks pregnant, had been driving to hospital after her partner Mr Grant, 39, severed his finger while using a lawnmower.

Their daughter Millie was also in the Land Rover.

Thanking Mr Roche, she said: ‘We are so grateful for the help. He was only a young guy and I think he was a bit shaken up by the whole thing.

‘I really want him to know how much it meant.’ She also thanked members of the hospital’s A&E department for their efforts.

After the incident, the couple tracked down Mr Roche, from Hastings, to offer him and his girlfriend their thanks.

The cause of the fire is still unclear, although fire services believe it may have been a mechanical fault.
