Artificial Pancreas for people living with Diabetes available by 2018

Sufferers of type 1 diabetes are required to constantly monitor their blood glucose levels and administer insulin as needed. But the daily hassle of self-care for patients could soon be reduced, with a new study concluding that automated "artificial pancreas" systems could be available in as little as two years.

The study, authored by Doctors Roman Hovorka and Hood Thabit of Cambridge University, reviews the overall progress of technology in these automated systems, including the bionic pancreas being developed by Boston University scientists.

Cat diagnosed with 'HIV' in Nairobi

Pathologists at Lancet Laboratories in Nairobi have cautioned cat owners to be vigilant after a cat was diagnosed with a virus similar to HIV.

The cat was said to have exhibited gradual weight loss and lethargy when its owner took it to the vet.

Blood tests conducted by the pathologists indicated that the cat had Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), which according to Citizen Digital caused degradation of the immune system.

SEE HOW DOCTORS SAVED THIS MAN'S HAND!

Doctors in Brazil have devised a brilliant idea to save the hand of a 42-year-old machine production operator from being amputated by putting it inside a pocket in his belly.

Carlos Mariotti, suffered a horrific work accident that ripped off all the skin on his hand but doctors decided to bury his damaged mitt in the soft tissue pouch for six weeks to save the hand from infections.

Orthopaedic and traumatology doctor Boris Brandao, who performed the rare operation, explained: 'Mr Marriott suffered a de-gloving injury which left him with very little skin on the palm and back of his hand, exposing the bones and tendons inside.

'This was a very large and delicate injury and the only place we could fit the whole hand was in the abdomen.

Meet Nigeria's first 'frozen egg' Baby..

The Bridge Clinic, Lagos on February 16, 2016 put Nigeria on the global map in the practice of oocyte cryopreservation, a new offering in the in-vitro fertilization (IVF) Space with the birth of Nigeria first baby conceived through the oocyte freezing protocol.

The male child was named Tiwatope. The oocyte was preserved through cryopreservation, which is the cooling of cells and tissues to sub-zero temperatures to stop biological activity and preserve the cells for future use.

Human oocyte cryopreservation (egg freezing) is a process in which a woman’s eggs (oocytes) are extracted, frozen and stored. Later, when she is ready to become pregnant, the eggs can be thawed, fertilised and transferred to the uterus as embryo.

Chinese baby born after surviving as frozen embryo for 12 years

China's longest preserved test tube baby, has been born, after a 40-year-old woman named Li gave birth to a healthy baby in China's northwest Shaanxi Province from an embryo frozen 12 years ago.

Science is truly changing the world and the way we live.

Li, gave birth to her second son, weighing 3,440 grammes at birth, at the Tangdu Hospital in provincial capital Xi’an on Wednesday morning.

14 new cases of sexually transmitted Zika Virus in the US - CDC

There seems to be no end in sight with the spread of Zika Virus as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says fourteen more people may have caught the virus in the U.S. without traveling to affected zones. The report shows strong evidence that the virus is sexually transmitted fairly often.

 "CDC and state public health departments are now investigating 14 new reports of possible sexual transmission of Zika virus, including several involving pregnant women," the CDC said in a statement.

Village head in Kano State infects 13-year-old-girl with HIV

According to reports in the Vanguard, The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a randy Village Head in Danbatta Local Government Area of the state (names withheld) for allegedly defiling and infecting a 13-year- old girl with HIV. 

The Director General of the board, Dr Abba Sufi, who made this known during an interactive session with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Tuesday.

WEIRD: Hermaphrodite Impregnates Self, Gives Birth To Hermaphrodite Twins

Jose Maria Garcia, a 19-year old born with both ovaries and testicles and has both male and female s*x organs has given birth this morning at the Amisola Maternity Hospital, reports the Manila Times. Both babies were also born hermaphrodites, displaying physical characteristics and private parts of both genders, a “miraculous event” according to Dr. Xi Huan Chow, Medical director at Amisola Maternity Hospital.

“We are privileged to experience such an unusual birth” he told reporters, visibly happy with the turn of events. “Hundreds of people have come to witness these miracles of nature. Both babies are extremely healthy and vibrant with life,” he explained with enthusiasm.

ABSOLUTELY VILE: Man bites into a piece of KFC to find a LUNG attached

Marc Nicholls, from Chevron Island on the Gold Coast, was left disgusted and feeling sick after biting into what he thought was a premium chicken breast from KFC, only to find he had nearly swallowed a large intact lung.

Mr Nicholls, 30, an IT technician, said he stopped at KFC Labrador during his day off and ordered a 3 piece box, with two wings and a chicken breast for $12.50. Instead of a quick, greasy meal, though, he said he got the 'surprise of my life.'
